Blue Origin Enters Satellite Broadband Race with TeraWave Network
Blue Origin is launching 5,408 satellites for its TeraWave broadband network, targeting governments and enterprises rather than consumers. The system promises speeds up to 6 terabits per second, with deployment starting in Q4 2027 using a mix of low and medium Earth orbit satellites.
The MOVE pits Jeff Bezos against Elon Musk’s Starlink, which already dominates with over 9,000 satellites and 9 million users. Simultaneously, Bezos is competing with Amazon’s Project Kuiper (now rebranded as Leo), which has deployed 180 satellites since April 2025 and plans a 3,236-satellite constellation.
Bezos has long signaled Blue Origin’s ambitions WOULD eclipse his other ventures. The satellite broadband market is becoming increasingly crowded, with industrial-scale connectivity as the next frontier.
